about

1998... I'm living in a tiny, dark apartment with high ceilings at the corner of Belmont and Echo in Fresno, California's Tower District... reading stories by and inspired by H.P. Lovecraft plus a fascinating book about the evolution of the modern idea of hell...

I get this idea to write a story inspired by Lovecraft about a musician that disappears after going into trancelike states while composing, having visions that grow darker and darker which in turn inspires the compositions to grow darker and more surreal. I'm pretty sure the working title was: The Strange Case of Jason P. Chavez.

The manuscript is lost due to moving from city to city in the early 2000s and the master discs for the MPC sessions as well.

I abandoned the idea and the project to work on the Octavius.4AM "Electric 3rd Rail" E.P.

Some of the tracks made their way to the Octavius project in different forms, some made their way to future solo projects in different evolved states, some just disappeared.

This approximation of the album was found on a cassette tape given to a friend 23 years ago...

The song sequence in this release was recorded directly from the MPC2000 to cassette tape in 1998 and given to a friend to check out as a work in progress demo. A week or so ago he messaged me saying he found some tapes I had given him in the 90s and brought them to me. I haven't heard some of these demo tracks in over 20 years. This is the closest thing to this lost album in existence. It's a trip to experience it again, it's dark, weird, I can only imagine what my friends were thinking when I played it for them, ha ha, here it is with plenty of tape hiss.

My obsession with the song I Want To Be Your Baby by Carla Thomas and The Flamingoes version of I Only Have Eyes For You are most definitely apparent.

The track Melt ended up as Love on my Love, Death... Puppies album. Brink of Sanity, Nightmare Soul and Wicked exist in different versions on my MPC beat tape and Darkened Corridors ended up as an evolved collaboration with Taron Barefield from The Sleepover Disaster on the Octavius.4AM Electric 3rd Rail E.P. in 2000.
